totally new to working with 3D Daz. A totally stupid question, but how do I use the poses once I down load them?

Ok, so first I suggest you use my Daz Studio install guide to make sure you getting the files set up correctly. You can find that here:
Then, to answer your question, you will need to load the figure that the pose has been made for (either genesis 2 female or genesis 3 female, depending on the pose) and then apply the pose file from your Daz library.
